Librarians call for boycott of Israel
A group of anti-Israel librarians recently called for a boycott of Israel to stop the "erasure of Palestinian culture and history." The group, which consisted of librarians from the US, Canada, Sweden and Trinidad & Tobago, had visited areas ruled by the Palestinian Authority. "We were inspired by the many organizations and individuals we visited who resist settler-colonialism in their daily lives…in all our travels and work, we respected the Palestinian civil society call for boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) against Israel and did not partner with any organization that violates this call. As librarians and archivists, as people who believe in access to information, we affirm that institutional academic and cultural boycotts are appropriate responses to curtailed freedoms and are effective tools for change," the librarians reported. The extremist group further admitted that they would "share our knowledge about the effects of occupation and colonialism on libraries" and launch new BDS campaigns. Librarians taking part in this mission had been from New York City College of Technology, University of Toronto, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, McGill University, and Barnard College.

Ita Benjamin: Was this the same group [which] threw their full support behind Cuba's war on librarians? Answer from LfF: YES, to a very large extent. This group is closely linked with the ALA's so-called Social Responsibilities Roundtable, which has supported Cuba's persecution of independent librarians, who have not towed the Communist line. We urge you to visit Robert Kent's excellent website, Friends of Cuban Libraries (www.friendsofcubanlibraries.org), for more information.

Scott Feltman: If it weren't true it would be laughable. On second thought, it is laughable. I love the fact that these so-called peace activists, never visit a single "settler" community when they go on their Arab Propaganda Tours and just drink the Kool Aid. What an irrelevant segment of society. Answer from LfF: This group doesn't talk about peace. It encourages violence and lionizes terrorists.
